Try adding a glass of red wine at the same time as the stock if you have any hand

And any herbs such as thyme, rosemary or bay would also make nice additions.

  • Preheat the oven to 200c.
  • Place the onion, leek and carrot in a large pan with 2 or 3 tablespoons of oil. Cook over a gentle heat until softened.
  • Add the mince and cook until brown.
  • Add the stock, tomatoes, puree and some seasoning.
  • Bring to the boil and simmer over a low heat for about 30 mins or until you are left with a thick sauce.
  • Mash your spuds and stir in some salt pepper and a large knob of butter if you like.
  • Put your mince mixture into a casserole dish, top with the mash and bake in the oven until golden and bubbling.

1 Large Carrot

1 Leek

500g Minced Beef

1 400g tin chopped tomatoes

1 tablespoon Tomato Puree

½ pint Beef Stock

4 Large Potatoes, cut into chunks

Salt & Pepper
