Student Accommodation in York

York is a very historic city and there are few areas that student prefer to live.

Southbank: This is quiet and very convenient for the city centre. A short walk over the millennium bridge will get you to university with many choosing to ride bikes. A 15 minute walk will see you into the city centre and it is close to the river and the train station. Southbank is also home to Rowntrees Park, founded by the Rowntrees sweet factory, and is great place to chill out with a few beers.

Heworth: Situated 20 minutes from university by foot, Heworth has a large student population. You can find local shops, a post office, a selection of takeaways and pubs in the area. Again, it is only a 20 minute walk to the city centre.

York is classed as a very safe city. It is littered with pubs, and like Norwich, is home to 365 pubs, one for every day of the year. The Swinegate area of the city centre has a lot of newly opened wine bars and café bars.

There are many bars in York. Many students begin at Varsity or Judges near Lendal Bridge and make their way down Coney Street to Vodka Revolution, Orgasmic and Pitcher & Piano before moving on to the nightclubs. Alternatively for cheap deals, the Micklegate run is littered with bars and pubs and plenty of people to meet.

Cross over the bridge and you’ll see the Kings Arms boasting the UK’s cheapest beer (and infamous flooding from the river Ouse). A very popular last stop before the Gallery nightclub is The Lowther where many students gather.

Toffs hosts the student night “attitude”, The Gallery is open 7 days a week, Ziggys is the alternative club and the student union caters for a cast array of tastes.
