Many students opt to take the metro into Newcastle in search of the lights of the big city. The trip takes less than half an hour and so is feasible.
Grangetown: this is the place to find student accommodation in Sunderland, students flock to this area when house hunting. The nightlife here is by far the best in the city, with exception of the centre of town. Redhouse is also a good night out and is popular with students.
Sunderland has many nightclubs; The Point, Liquid and Privilege are always busy and provide drinking after hours. As far as bars go, there are a lot of new ones opening as the city grows. Chase, Bar: Me and Luma are among the good ones. If it’s just the quiet pint you seek then Chaplin’s in the city centre is very traditional and the Wetherspoons is there for that cheap beverage.
Transport is good in the city, buses run regularly especially in the city centre. Also the Metro is always an option.
