The university is situated no more than a 10-minute bus ride from the centre of town. The centre is pedestrianised with shopping arcades and indoor markets selling all kinds of local produce and crafts.
The university halls of residence have had developments in recent years and when enrolling new students are provided with student accommodation (providing Lancaster was the first choice when applying). Each halls of residence, of which there are nine, run their own fresher weeks, helping new students to meet their fellow students and housemates.

Lancaster’s campus has a very good reputation as it is classed as one of the safest campuses in the UK. The campus is situated 3 miles outside of town, and some students find this a very daunting prospect when first arriving, it seems far more isolated than anticipated. On the other hand, Lancaster has good rail and bus services serving to connect the area to the lively cities of Manchester and Liverpool.
