Durham is a traditional university and dominates its city. All full time students become members of a society or universities college. This guarantees some kind of student accommodation.

The city itself is host to many campuses, Durham castle is incorporated into one building and many other more modern building line the outskirts of the city. Most are live in colleges.

As well as in the city students often choose to live in other areas of the city and its surrounding towns. Stockton on tees is a popular choice as it also is home to the Queens campus, and so for easy access to university and less transport costs, students choose to live in close proximity to it.

Nightlife is not that great in Durham itself and so many students will travel further a field to sample the busy bars and clubs of Newcastle, which is just a short train trip away. Transport is not a major concern in Durham due to the close living arrangements of students studying in the various colleges. However, students choosing to live in private sector housing need not worry, as Bus links are good around the city.
