Canterbury is a charming city and has everything a student would need for a great student life. There are many student areas, and estate agents to advise on ideal places to find the best Student Accommodation in Canterbury.
Wincheap
Wincheap is one of the main student areas in Canterbury, comprising of its own convenient shops, restaurants, hairdressers etc, it is just a short walk from Canterbury east train station and a 5 minute walk into the town centre. Canterbury’s town centre has recently had a makeover and is now any shoppers dream.
Canterbury Community
Canterbury is very close knit and for a small area it manages to host a variety of pubs and bars, there is something here for everybody. The Old Buttermarket is situated in front of the cathedral and has an outdoor drinking area, perfect for summer beverages.
Popular student pubs
Popular student pubs are Casey’s, a typical Irish pub with a great atmosphere, The Penny Theatre, Simple Simons, which has a live jazz band playing on Thursday nights and an outdoor drinking area, The Beer Cart Arms, known for its more alternative music. The Hobgoblin and The Cherry Tree also attract students and is situated on the high street. The Bishops Finger is popular with the sport fanatics in Canterbury, showing live sport daily. The Blind dog also has tv screens, and is popular with football and rugby fans. HaHa’s bar and canteen is very popular at the weekends for a pre club drink, and next door is The Loft, a trendy bar serving posh nosh and cocktails at posh prices. Just across the road is Alberry’s wine bar, which is one of the only bars in Canterbury open until 2pm. They have a fantastic cocktail menu (try the funky monkey), and have bands and DJ’s playing on most nights of the week and has a dance floor, which although is quite small, Alberry’s always has a lively and fun atmosphere. Other alternatives for an after midnight boogie are Chicago rock café, playing pop and R&B, and Baa Bars, which has 3 floors with 3 types of music, generally pop/cheese, R&B and trance/house. Both venues have a no trainer policy and be prepared to que after 10.30. They also hold special student nights in the week with cheaper entrance fees and drink deals.
The Canterbury University
The Canterbury University has its own night club on campus called the Venue and the University College for the creative arts also has it’s own bar, both have bands playing most nights of the week and occasionally have fancy dress themes.
