The city has a lot to offer socially, and as a result attracts thousands of new student applicants each year. The main house-hunting time for students is during the second term, from February onwards. Similar to most cities the main “rush” for student accommodation in Bristol will be at the beginning of the year, but don't panic if you don't find accommodation for a few weeks! Bristol has plenty of quality private rented student housing and many newly arriving students find private student lets throughout the summer and in September every year.
Bristol University students prefer to rent student accommodation in Clifton, Redland, Cotham and St Andrews. Students from UWE tend to rent student properties across the city, but mainly in Filton, Fishponds and Horfield. As many students now have cars, however, student houses further out are now being considered that would not have been feasible several years ago.
The Strip on Whiteladies Road is a popular place to start when out on the town. There are stacks of pubs and clubs in Bristol - Po-na-na-s is pretty popular, as is The Fez. Otherwise there is Evolution for the standard cheesy student night out and the Maze for those with a harder appetite to house music. Despite the mixture of trendy clubs nearly all Bristol students would admit to spending at least one fuzzy night at "Wedgies" with simply the cheesiest music and clientele in town!
For cinema and theatre goers, there are plenty of places, including the Old Vic, the country’s oldest working theatre.
